Our Itinerary
Sailing day is Saturday and your holiday begins on arrival at Dalaman International Airport, or your local area hotel if you have arrived earlier. Our staff provide a private transfer to your gulet where a welcome drink awaits you. After you settle in to your cabin and have an opportunity to meet your crew, our local tour agent/guide will brief you on the week ahead.Our Classical Lycian Experience itinerary operates throughout our season from April - October, but guests should be aware that during the hottest months (July and August) your crew may suggest alternative activities since visits to some of the archaeological sites require a significant amount of walking over rough terrain in temperatures of up to 40 degrees Centigrade. Day 1 Embark on your gulet between 3pm and 7pm and settle into your cabin. After a briefing from your tour guide Dinner is served at 8.30pm. We spend the night moored in the port of Fethiye known in ancient times as Telmessos.
Day 2After breakfast on board our Tour Guide will be waiting to escort you the short walk to visit the early Roman Theatre. We then board our bus to visit Fethiye Museum, view the medieval castle and the Temple and House type tombs dating from the 4th Century B.C. After lunch at a typical Turkish restaurant in Fethiye we travel on to the impressive ruins of Tlos, one of the few Lycian cities that maintained considerable status until the 19th century. We then travel on to Saklikent, an 18 km long canyon with ice cold waters and raging rapids located on the slopes of Mt Akdag. We return to our gulet, which will be moored close to Gemiler Island in the late afternoon, in time for a swim or an optional visit to the Byzantine Churches on the island. Day 3While you sleep the crew will cruise towards Kalkan Bay where breakfast will be served at anchor. An opportunity to swim or relax, before we continue our cruise to Kas where lunch will be served on board. This afternoon we visit Kas taking in the historical sites at Antiphellos and the bazaar, with time for some shopping in the town or optional scuba diving with our partners at Anenome Diving Centre. Special rates have been arranged for scuba diving and guests should book 48 hours in advance. Dinner will be served on board at 8.30pm and we overnight in Kas Harbour. Kalkan Bay
Day 4An early sailing this morning , we leave Kas bound for Apperlai, with it's pretty Lycian Tombs, where breakfast will be served. You will have the opportunity to visit the historical sites or swim before lunch served on board. This afternoon we visit Kekova Island viewing it's sunken city and on to Gokkaya Island. An opportunity to enjoy the clear waters of the bay before Dinner is served on board. Kekova Island
Day 6Day 5 After breakfast we visit Andriake, the ancient port of Myra at Cayagzi. We board our bus and continue on to Arykanda, in our view a "Lycian Jewel", described in travellers books of the 18th and 19th century as resembling the Swiss Alps or as a "heavenly corner on the face of the world" set at an altitude of 650 mtrs above sea level . We return to Demre for lunch. This afternoon we visit the Byzantine Church dedicated to St Nicholas, known throughout the world as Santa Claus, in Demre and visit Myra, the capital of Lycia at the time St Nicholas was Bishop of Myra. We return to the gulet at around 5pm and depart for Caralos Bay , sailing via Simena. Dinner is served in Caralos Bay and we overnight off Geyikova Island. Arykanda Myra Simena
Day 6This morning we sail early for the islands off Kas where we will take breakfast in one of the pretty bays. We continue to Kalkan for lunch on board in the harbour. After lunch we join our tour guide for visits to Letoon, with temples dedicated to Leto, Artemis and Apollo, an impressive theatre and the remains of a Byzantine Church. Xanthos, a hapless but magnificent city, and Patara the seat of government of ancient Lycia, before rejoining our gulet and sailing on for dinner and overnight in beautiful Yesilkoy Bay. Letoon Xanthos Patara Day 7 After breakfast our crew will set sail for Karacaoren Island where we lunch at anchor and have the opportunity to swim. We sail on to Fethiye where we spend the afternoon relaxing or shopping in the markets and bazaars of Fethiye. This evening our Senior Captain invites you for drinks and canapés before Dinner served at 8.30pm .We spend the night moored in Fethiye Harbour. Day 8 After breakfast we say goodbye to our captain and crew and disembark at 10am for return to Dalaman International Airport or your local area hotel. |
